Amy Atlas Inspired Halloween Centerpiece Tutorial

Here are the first of our images from the last few weeks of parties! This one is the Amy Atlas inspired centerpiece we used for the Spooktacular Fall Dance that we decorated for last Friday at a local Elementary School with 500 guests. We had a lot of fun putting all the details together for this party. We plan to use this centerpiece again for the upcoming Holidays with different embellishments!
First, we spray painted a plastic urn that we found at Home Depot for $8.00.

Next, we spray painted sticks silver that we found in our backyard!

They came out gorgeous!

We spray painted leaves found at the Dollar Tree to coordinate.

Look at the difference just the few leaves made!

We added some black crows from the Dollar Tree.

Very spooky!

These skulls we took from a Dollar Tree garland, pulled them off the rope and hot glued Christmas bulb hooks to the top to hang on the tree.
We thought they looked like little monkey skulls!

We spray painted an old wreath we found in the garage to match the branches.

And fit it around the bottom of the urn for a little something extra!

…Viola!

We thought it looked so big in our design space, but when we placed it on our tablescape in the school cafeteria, it was perfect!

Everyone loved it!

We hope you did too!

More to come…

Lots of Smiles,
Amber

What we did last weekend! {Sandwich Fair 2010}

I know you’re all looking for something free today. (It’s usually Freebie Monday’s here on the Clickable blog) but we are swamped and doing things a little differently this week. I’m going to be catching up on blogs about what is going on in the Callina household.

THE SANDWICH FAIR

As I mentioned last week, we went to the Sandwich Fair in Sandwich, NH and I had some delicious fried dough! I entered my first skillet throwing contest…(there were unflattering pix of me that I chose not to post) and the boys rode lots of scary, fast rides! Here are some pix

My fabulous mother-in-law’s turn.

There I am. The only ok pic I could find that I will share with you.
Another fabulous skillet throw.

There’s my son Seth as the skillet boy! He did great and kept up a positive attitude!

There’s Luke – it’s rare to get a pic of him lately without the “thumbs up.”

That’s it for scary ride pictures!

Then they both got an “earthworm” hat in preparation for winter. All in all a successful day. They needed a picture with this “magic” faucet behind them that appears to be floating in mid air.
Next post will be what we did THIS weekend!
Best,
Krysten

Tuesday Has a Recipe 10.12.10 {Fair Fried Dough with Maple Cream Topping}

The last two days we took our annual trip to New Hampshire to the Sandwich Fair. My mother-in-law lives and owns a business in North Sandwich, and we always go up at least for the day.

Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the Sandwich Fair, and the first annual Skillet Throwing Contest, which my darling mother in law talked me into entering. I was able to throw the 4 pound cast iron skillet fairly straight, much to my surprise and delight, and gave it a good 33 foot toss. Nothing compared to the winner’s 57 foot launch, but I was happy to have not hurt anyone!
I shared some Fried Dough with cream maple glaze with my 8 year old early in the day, and it was by far, the best fried dough I ever had! Inspired by this, I am posting a recipe for fried dough you can make at home from Meeyauw’s Recipes and maple cream sauce recipe that I think would work!
For the maple cream:
Combine 1 cup pure maple syrup, 1/2 cup heavy cream and about 2 tablespoons butter in a sauce pan and bring it to a boil.
More about my eventful weekend to come, with some real party pix! WOOT!
Best,
Krysten

Tuesday has a recipe {VEGAN Pumpkin Pie!} 10.5.10

Today’s recipe comes from a fellow mogger blommy, Marci from The Balancing Act in Scrubs and Stilletos and her Meatless Monday series!

From her blog:

This blog is mostly about my 2 sweet little boys, Levin and Brighton, about being a Mother, our Vegetarian/Vegan diet/Green Living/Recycling/Saving the animals/Earth-loving/Hippie Lifestyle. Were not your ordinary Family!

She is definitely a great girl to follow as she chronicles her ‘life less ordinary’! And without further ado, I give you…

Vegan Pumpkin Pie!

Visit her blog for the recipe and directions, and leave her some comment love! Why is this extra great? Because every year for the holidays, we have some friends and family who are vegetarians or vegans – and now I know what I can do to show them I love them that much more! And you can too!

To-the-TOP Tuesday

Monday’s blog *will* have something free! 10.4.10

Hey friends and followers!

I have something planned for my Freebie Monday, but will have to postpone posting it because we had a crazy weekend and I’M NOT READY FOR TODAY!

Here are some pix from the weekend though! Had lots of fun with the Callina Clan having pix taken and hanging out!

Seth’s hair was driving me crazy. I should have had it trimmed before we left!

Love my new corduroy jacket, but I accidentally bought it a size too big and didn’t know until it was too late. It’s laying weird, but hopefully my son is blocking it in the real pix!

The location was so beautiful! I’d never been here before, but we could have spent hours on these grounds. Absolutely breathtaking!
Stay tuned for Freebie Monday!
Best,
Krysten
