Thursday’s Blog has Bloggy Clips 9.30.10 {Awesome DIYs}

Here are some of my favorite clips from surfing the Blog Wave this week!
And what a week it has been! Last night was my youngest son’s “Back to School Night” where I had to give a mini speech about our Parents Advisory Council {We’re here to help!}, AND my darling hubby’s birthday {If you haven’t been to Buca di Bepo, you must go. Now.}!
In related news, I get to coordinate a dessert table for our Spooktacular Fall Dance for 200-300 people on Halloween weekend. Wha??? Excited and scared and recruiting slave labor. :-O
This weekend we are heading up to Ipswich Castle Hill for our annual family pix with the Callinas, and looking forward to next week – possibly visiting the Providence Zoo for their Jack-O-Lantern Extravaganza and hopefully taking home a pound puppy named Suzie! {That is not her, but she looks like that!}
On with the bloggy clips!

Pumpkin Spice cupcake skewers from WhipperBerry. This blog is so lovely, you can spend hours here perusing her posts and getting very inspired. Instructions included.

DIY Kids Playstove from My Delicious Ambiguity. This was not a new post for them, but new to me and complete with tutorial. Perfect for Thanksgiving when your little one wants to “help” in the kitchen or for Grandma’s house – so portable! Tutorial and printables included.

The Pink Peony of Le Jardin is genius. She has lots of great and inspiring stuff – like this $3 Specimen Decoration. Tutorial included on site.
Living Out Loud has a list of fabulous free Jack-O-Lantern patterns. Nice!

A Pumpkin and a Princess put together this darling mock-bubble gum dispenser with a clay pot set, a dollarstore jar and a wooden knob. I LERVE THIS! Full tutorial on their site!

Thursday’s Blog has Bloggy Clips – Fall Decorating 9.16.10

Today’s blog features some spooktacular fun from Sawdust and Paper Scraps. This girl is brilliant! I love her freecycle ways and her creative and inexpensive projects and ideas.

Check out her post on making these awesome Halloween candlesticks with recycled lamps and some dollar store stuff!

Here’s another great fall decorating post from Thrifty Decor Chick. It’s a great SQUARE Dollar Store Wreath for the whole fall season. You can use this right through Thanksgiving, and it’s unique shape is really appealing.

Finally, a fun and thrifty decorating post for fall from I Saw That Going Differently In My Mind.

[On a side note, I have to say that every time I read the name of her blog, I chuckle a little inside. It's one of my favorite lines from the movie Hitch with Will Smith {although I don't know if that's her inspiration}. If you haven't seen that movie - do. It makes me laugh every time.]

Ok, back to the clip! This is a super cute way to decorate, use some either inexpensive hurricanes vases or apothecary jars or some you might already have. Check out the blog post here.

Don’t forget – today’s your last chance to leave your link on my blog party post for tomorrow’s Feature Me Friday!

And there is a fall coupon through the end of next week for 50% off any order of $15.00 or more. FALL12010 Tell all your friends!

Later today I will be posting my 2nd Halloween theme for your enjoyment!

Best,
Krysten

In keeping with the fall theme, our next bloggy clip is from Lizard and Ladybug! This is a great craft idea for your Halloween party!

Another Simple Halloween Idea (favors)

I have more than a few milk jugs from various places. I’ve been able to recycle a few of them and turn them into some cute Halloween decorations. See here and here.

Here’s another idea that I think is really cute (and easy and cheap). Bubbles.
My kids love bubbles. We go through lots (more than normal, I think). WalMart has their summer stuff on clearance. I picked up 2 big bottles the other day for .75 each.
I have a few milk jugs that are clear & I thought it would be cute to use them as bubble bottles. I needed a wand – pipe cleaners! I had a stash of black ones.

While it was drying, I taped a strip of scrapbook paper around the bottle.
I shaped my pipe cleaner and filled the bottle with the bubble solution.
*I know there are tons of homemade bubble solutions..but I chose to take the lazy road.

Use a ribbon to tie on the wand and…..

I spray painted the lid.

These are so easy (the longest part was waiting for the lid to dry) and so versatile.
You can use any size bottle.
If I were making these as party favors, I would use a smaller bottle
- more bubble for you buck.
You can use any paper/ribbon/label/tags.
It really is a great little favor that isn’t too expensive.
And if you’re real crafty..
you can shape your bubble wands into fun shapes
(I’ve mastered round and heart).

Hope you’re enjoying getting ready for some spooky days ahead! Visit back tomorrow for Feature Friday!

Krysten

Make a tiered bowl {Dollar Store Craft!}

Check out this adorable tiered bowl made from Dollar Store items for less than $5! I found his on the Dollar Store Crafts site – one of my new favorite haunts! Enjoy! -

Barbara from Craftsty made this amazing display bowl to show off her adorable mushrooms.

Project Estimate:

  • 3 bowls, $3
  • 2 candlesticks, $2
  • Strong glue (E6000 on hand)

Total Cost: $5

This is a great idea for the holidays! Simple holiday decorating! Or use it for your next craft show display.

Barbara: I made a 3 tier bowl set from items from my local dollar store! The total cost was $5.00 and some strong glue because mine were made out of glass. I bought 3 bowls and 2 candle sticks. Set one bowl upside down and glue a candle stick in the middle and repeated again then place the last bowl uptop the candle stick. Let it dry and flip over now you have a 3 tier bowl set. They can be used for centerpieces with fruit or candies but I use mine in my craftroom.

Thanks for sharing your dollar store genius with us, Barbara!
